An Epitaph For Beverly

December 13, 2007

It’s rather late but … I just stumbled upon the perfect epitaph for Beverly Sills during my daily surfing.

“When a bubble’s gone, you don’t see it anymore with your eyes.

And when an opera is over, you don’t hear it anymore with your ears.

But you can remember it.

You can remember what bubbles look like and what operas sound like and what friends feel like.

And you’ll always have them with you in your memory.”

-Mr. Rogers

Thanks for the epitaph. Though, it is a little late, who can stop thinking of dear Beverly? I imagine that we’ll be remembering her for the rest of our lives. I know that I still hear her everyday.

Beautiful epitaph……hey, one of my early memories of opera: actually wanting to be able to be in some situation in which I could scream to some b#$#* : “figlia impura di Bolena (or insert naem here)” with the same beauty, poison, anger, anf fire that she put into it…..

When I was a budding opera fanatic, I was seduced to Antonia’s Death Scene, sung by La Sills. Needless to say, she is a sentimental favorite. Ah, youth!
